Our Seat at the Table aims to educate and inspire our community to go forth and serve hundreds of vulnerable youth in the Los Angeles area through education initiatives and organized community events.
We use food as a means to connect people across sociocultural barriers and ensure vulnerable youth feel that they have a seat at the table -- that they belong.
With an emphasis on health and nutrition literacy, social justice, and fostering a deep sense of belonging, we are dedicated to educating, supporting and physically & psychologically nourishing vulnerable youth through food, cooking and community, and believe that everyone has a seat at the table!
So… how are we doing this?
Our Seat At the Table is built on FOUR legs of belonging -- Food Equity, Nutritional Literacy, Culinary Diplomacy, and Identity Foundation -- to create the perfect chair!
Much like a chair cannot exist without the support of its legs, so too can Our Seat at the Table not exist with just one individual goal. Each of our initiatives works in tandem with each other to foster connection, belonging, and nourishment, no matter the participant.
Food Equity
Los Angeles faces high statistics of food insecurity that has only grown exponentially since the COVID pandemic. Find out what we’re doing in response.
Nutrition Literacy
We believe the key to a healthy lifestyle is nutritional education and its application. We practice this first pillar of our organization through community wide events, educational resource opportunities, and more!
Culinary Diplomacy
"The easiest way to win hearts and minds is through the stomach.” Find out why we agree with this sentiment and value it deeply as our second pillar.
Identity Foundation and Connection
According to the US Surgeon General’s 2023 report, loneliness is the most critical current national epidemic in the United States. While this spans across all ages, it is the youth of our country who are the most impacted. Find out how we aim to tackle this issue with our third pillar!
