Food Equity
Did you know that over 2 million people in Los Angeles face food insecurity?
That’s 1 in every 5 of our neighbors who are not sure where their next meal is coming from, and/or do not have enough to eat.
Our Seat at the Table is dedicated to fighting this statistic by creating community events and educational resources that focus on teaching nutrition literacy to vulnerable youth through hands-on and visual learning experiences.
Our Seat at the Table x Foster Nation Thanksgiving Dinner, November 2023
Our Projects:
Our Seat at the Table partners with Foster Nation, an organization to support youth who have aged out of the foster care system (ages 18-21). As part of our Thanksgiving communal meal, we shopped together, where we included lessons about healthy eating and selecting recipes, before cooking and sharing a meal together (pictured above).
In February, Our Seat at the Table hosted a “Galentines Day” Women’s Empowerment Culinary Workshop for local foster youth in Foster Nation, learning to bake cupcakes and cookies together from scratch to gift to other women in need with Upward Bound, an organization helping unhoused women by helping them access basic resources and successfully transition into their own homes with the capacity to remain there permanently. Together, we packed up gift bags with all the baked items, a teddy bear donated from Bear Givers then dropped them off at Upward Bound House for the women and their children to enjoy!

Our Seat at the Table has also created a MASTERCLASS for other foster youth.
